TRASH INFORMATION

Trash is picked up every Monday and Thursday in Westridge. Recycling is also picked up on Mondays. The trucks begin their route at 6:00 AM. The trucks normally maintain the same route each pickup day. However, the amount of trash varies from day to day, and other factors may impact the routes, making it difficult to guarantee a pick-up time. To be assured of pickup, your trash must be out by 6:00 AM. We encourage you to place the trash out the night before, after dusk if possible. No more than 15 bags can be picked up from any one residence in a single day.

Trash is to be placed in a sealed, secure container. In the townhouses this means a covered barrel or covered trashcan. The single-family homes are provided a wheeled cart. If your cart should ever need repairs or replacement, call American Disposal at 703-368-0500. Remember you are responsible for the care and cleaning of your cart. Large items, appliances, furniture, moving boxes and other bulky items your family does not generate on a weekly basis need to be scheduled for pickup forty eight hours in advance with American Disposal at 703-368-0500. Do not pile up the trash in front of the mailboxes.

There are certain items that will not be picked up by the contractor. These items are the following:

  • Oil, paint, dead animals, construction materials, dirt, toxic or flammable items, batteries;
  • Packing peanuts that are not secured in a bag;
  • Tree stumps from trees larger than six inches in diameter;
  • Logs from fallen or cut down trees;
  • Any item that cannot be safely loaded and hauled away.
American Disposal has provided us with recycling bins. If your bin is damaged or has disappeared we do have extras at the clubhouse. Bins are the property of American Disposal and are to remain in the property for the new residents when you move. The following items are recycled:
  • Newspapers: place in paper bags or tie securely. Do not use plastic bags. Unacceptable items are colored and slick inserts, magazines, telephone books, and junk mail.
  • Plastics: Plastics with #1 and #2 only are acceptable.
  • Glass bottles and jars: Rinse out food residue and remove caps and lids. Unacceptable items are plate and window glass, pottery, light bulbs, Pyrex and ceramic dishes.
  • Metal food cans: Rinse out residue and remove lids. Unacceptable item is scrap metal.
  • Aluminum cans: rinse all cans. Unacceptable items are pots and pans, foil, pie tins.
  • Brush: Secure in bundles up to two feet in diameter and cut up to four-foot lengths.
  • Yard debris: Place in disposable plastic bags.
There is no trash service on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. Collection will be cancelled on days when the weather has made the roads unsafe due to ice and snow. There will be no makeup and trash will be collected on the next scheduled day.

Remember American Disposal is not responsible for trash scattered from containers or bags by weather or animals.
